Liam O’Dell is a freelance journalist and campaigner specialising in deafness, disability and social media. He is a regular contributor to the deaf news blog The Limping Chicken and his work has also been featured in The Stage, HuffPost, Metro.co.uk, The i and Independent.
In November 2017, Liam delivered his first ever TEDx talk at the TEDxBrayfordPool event in Lincoln. How to control your labels, and when to let them define you currently has over 500 views on YouTube.
A former presenter for Lincoln’s first community radio station, Siren Radio, Liam also has a background in broadcast journalism and digital engagement. His time at the station saw him host breakfast programme The Morning Report as well as his own Saturday morning entertainment show, Brunchtime.
In his final year at Siren Radio, he also produced and co-presented his own election results programme. Local Election Live followed the 2017 City of Lincoln Council elections and featured interviews with candidates across the political spectrum, including the Council leader and the local Member of Parliament.
This year, Feedspot placed Liam’s website at No. 6 in their Top 10 UK Deaf Blogs, Websites and Influencers in 2020 list. His website also reached No. 32 in their Top 50 Deaf Blogs & Websites for People With Hearing Loss in 2020 rankings.
Alongside writing, Liam produces content for his own YouTube channel and is a public speaker, having moderated panels at Summer in the City, the Almeida Theatre’s Shifting Tides festival and the UK Asexuality Conference.
